8 Signs an Aging Parent May Need More Support
Most families notice one or two of these before anyone says the words "more help." The Family Care Check walks through each one so you can see the full picture, not just the thing that worried you today.
Falls or near-falls
One fall makes another more likely. Even a near-miss in the last six months is worth noting.
Missed appointments
When getting to the doctor gets hard, visits get put off, and small problems go unchecked.
Several ongoing conditions
Managing two, three or more chronic conditions at once means more moving parts to keep on top of.
Medication mix-ups
Missed doses, double doses or a growing pill list are some of the most common warning signs.
ER visits or hospital stays
A recent trip to the ER often means care at home needs a closer look so it doesn't happen again.
Changes in memory or mood
Forgetfulness, confusion, withdrawal or new worry can be early signs that deserve attention.
Trouble with daily tasks
Needing help with bathing, dressing or meals changes what it takes to stay safe at home.
You're stretched thin
Your own capacity matters too. Long distance or burnout is a real part of the picture.

Family Care Check FAQ
How do I know if my elderly parent is safe living alone?
Look at the everyday picture: recent falls or near-falls, trouble keeping track of medications, missed doctor appointments, ER visits, changes in memory or mood, and needing help with bathing, dressing or meals. One sign on its own may be manageable, but several together usually mean it's time for more support. The Family Care Check walks through all of them in about two minutes.
Is the Family Care Check free?
Yes. The check, your result and your printable checklist are all free, with no obligation.
Is this a medical assessment?
No. The check is for general information and is not medical advice. It's a simple way to organize what you're noticing so you know what to watch for and when to ask for help. If your parent is having an emergency, call 911.
What happens after I finish?
You'll see your result right away and we'll send a printable checklist matched to it. If you'd like to talk through options, our care team can reach out, usually within one business day. You can opt out of contact at any time.
Does Medicare cover in-home medical care?
Medicare Part B covers medically necessary visits from doctors and other providers, including visits at home.
